Jakarta, 18 July 2022 – Good Doctor Technology Indonesia (Good Doctor) today announced their partnership with Predigti (Perhimpunan Kedokteran Digital Terintegrasi Indonesia) / Indonesian Integrated Digital Medical Association and Wolter Kluwer, the leading global leader of trusted clinical technology, as part of Good Doctor’s commitment in upholding medical excellence and patients’ safety.
Being the first telemedicine platform in Indonesia to partner with UpToDate, Good Doctor is highly committed to medical and service quality. Good Doctor does not only give recommendations but make sure that the recommendations given are of best quality, for the good of the patient. Good Doctor are also excited to provide UpToDate®, the only clinical decision support solution associated with improved patient outcomes, to their clinicians access because they see this as an empowerment in diagnosing and educating patient. With this collaboration, not only doctors will benefit, but also patients because patients will receive safe and effective treatment, based on trusted, evidence-based medical practices. Besides that, with access to updated medical sources, the articles in Good Doctor website will be more aligned with the latest evidence based medical information.
Head of Medical, PT Good Doctor Technology Indonesia, dr. Adhiatma Gunawan, said, “Indeed, we are still in the early stages of telemedicine, namely teleconsultation. However, at this early stage, we have guaranteed the medical quality aspect of our teleconsultation services by equipping our doctors to render evidence-based telemedicine for our users. Therefore, we are delighted to partner with UpToDate, an industry leading in medical decision support as it improve our doctors’ access to updated and trustworthy medical sources. By equipping our doctors with the latest medical information from UpToDate which is an internationally recognized platform, we ensure that our standard of care follows international standards.”
UpToDate provides access to consists of more than 12,000 clinical topics across 25 specialties, more than 9,500 graded recommendations, more than 6,900 unique drug entries and more than 200+ medical calculators to support our doctors with access to valid, trustworthy and updated medical information and resources. Some of these countries have already proven the benefits of UpToDate. Researchers at Singapore’s National University Hospital found that use of UpToDate led to change in clinical decisions 37% of the time. In a Japanese hospital, diagnostic error rates for patients seen by doctors using UpToDate was 2%, compared to 24% for patients seen by doctors without UpToDate. in Japan using UpToDate reduces diagnostic error Researchers at Harvard University concluded that use of UpToDate was associated with improved quality of care.
Keefe Halim, Country Manager Indonesia, Clinical Effectiveness, Health, at Wolters Kluwer, said, “We are proud to serve prominent medical institutions and teaching hospitals in the world, including in Indonesia. We are delighted to partner with Good Doctor as the one of the largest telemedicine platforms in Indonesia who also trust UpToDate to equip their doctors with the vast, trustworthy and latest medical resources. This collaboration means that Good Doctor will provide evidence-based advice—a very important role in making clinical decisions. In addition, there is standardization of services so that patients will not choose doctors because they believe that any doctor has the same quality standards. For patients, the most important thing is that they get teleconsultation services at Good Doctor.”
A retrospective study identifying 100 patients who visited the outpatient department of a community-based hospital in Japan from July 2014 to June 2015 showed that a computer-based clinical knowledge management system can prevent and reduce diagnostic errors. Diagnostic error rate of the computer-based system-equipped physicians was significantly lower than that of non-equipped physicians. With these evidence-based medical resources, doctors are helped in making decisions for patient treatment. In other words, the integration of doctors’ clinical skills with scientific evidence contained in various evidence-based medical sources enables doctors to make the best decisions for patients even in teleconsultation services, doctors and patients do not meet face-to-face.
To maintain its medical excellence, Good Doctor also implements 3 layers Medical Quality Control in its platform since launched. The Three Layer QC System reviews teleconsultation cases daily and also review user feedbacks received through Therapeutic Efficacy Survey and Customer Experience channel. In each layer, it is ensured that there is no potential medical risk. If a potential medical risk occurs, a review and verification of errors will be carried out so that mitigation and service recovery actions can be made. A review is also carried out if after taking the drug it turns out that the patient’s condition does not improve or even the patient experiences adverse effects, cases will be discussed and investigated so that appropriate mitigation and service recovery actions can be determined.
With a Quality Control process like this, patients receive treatment well so that the patient’s condition does not improve even after taking the medicine and following the doctor’s recommendations or the patient experiencing adverse effects never occurs. Even if it happens, only very little (0,0001%). Or after doing Root Cause Analysis, it turns out that there are other factors that cannot be avoided so that the treatment given does not work optimally.
Dr. Agus Ujianto, MSi Med. SpB, Chairman of Predigti (Perhimpunan Kedokteran Digital Terintegrasi Indonesia) / Indonesian Integrated Digital Medical Association, said, “As a business, Good Doctor has shown responsibility by focusing on patient safety in teleconsultation which has been realized and this should be appreciated. Of course, in the future, it is possible that Good Doctor will provide other advanced remote medical consultation tools. Apart from that, the Medical Committee at Good Doctor is another progress made by this platform which is also worthy of appreciation.”
Another progress that Dr. Agus hopes from Good Doctor is to set a periodization, namely when to expand its services to provide other digital services, not only teleconsultation.Good Doctor is also expected to prepare for the health transformation launched by the Ministry of Health, namely citizen health apps (each patient has their own data that can be taken anywhere). It is an honor if the platform can become a health facility. Good Doctor can start working with specialists in the medical field, such as plastic surgery and pediatric surgery. Thus, Good Doctor will have excellent service as well as become a leader in the world of telemedicine.
In closing, Dr. Agus said, “Moreover, telemedicine has now become a necessity that must be prepared and quality guaranteed for management in the health sector. So, officers, technology, and regulations must be ready. This is for the future because the world is getting denser, there are more diseases, the patient queues are getting longer, not to mention the pandemic and several infectious diseases that are still common. Therefore, things that can be overcome with telemedicine will be very useful.”
